Patient’s reception
Immediately on arrival at the department, the patient is received by two nurses who according to protocol, evaluate the seriousness of his/her condition by taking a brief history and recording vital signs. The nurses then chanel the patient to the appropriate doctor or further examination and treatment or urgent resuscitaton where needed.
Medical examination
After the triage and the registration, the patient gets to be examined by a doctor, who is helped by a nurse. This is the moment in which there the first clinical assessment and diagnosis of the patient is made and treatment is initiated.
In our OPD there are 3 rooms for preliminary examinations and assistance. Each room has a doctor who takes history examined the patient and orders laboratory investigatios. In this way the waiting time can be greatly reduced.
Local treatment or hospitalization
After the medical examination and the consequent diagnosis, the doctor might decide whether to complete treatment in the OPD, to refer the patient to a specialist clinic or admit the patient in the appropriate ward straight away.
In 2018 only 19% of the patients (6178 out of 31450) were considered in need of hospitalization

The The 8 doctors in charge of the OPD received an all-encompassing education, making them able to deal with any situation. Moreover special attention is given to Emergency Medicine education.
Our Hospital boasts a high number of young doctors and residents. They are those who make our Facility a real “Teaching Hospital”.

In our Hospital’s OPD we have 18 nurses and nurses’ assistants, who guarantee a non-stop assistance to those patients who come to our facility, as well as a fast and meticulous triage service.

OPD is like asmall hospital inside a big hospital for quick assistance, accurate services, and serving high number of patients. For this reason, beside our medical and nursing personnel, the OPD also has 5 helpers who guarantee cleanliness and hygiene, and 5 other employees who oversee patients’ registration, their moving into the wards and the economical aspect.
